Which Bankruptcy Court Do I File In?
The court you file in depends on where you have lived for the majority past 180 days (typically where you have lived in the prior 91 days) or where your biggest asset is located. If you’ve recently moved, consult an attorney to confirm your filing location.

- If you live in Arlington, you must file in the Alexandria Bankruptcy Court.

What to Expect If You Visit a Bankruptcy Court
1. Security Screening
- You must present a government-issued ID.
- No cell phones, cameras, or weapons allowed. In Eastern District of Virginia, if you bring a phone, you will be provided a Yondr pouch to prevent usage.
2. Dress Code
- Business casual is recommended. Avoid shorts, tank tops, and flip-flops.
